Heavy synths, driving bass, and melancholic lyrics combine to create the sound of Esther Joy, a London-based producer and singer. On the lead track from her new EP Psychic Tears (due August 11), the noise-driven artist depicts a furious side to herself that she names "Samgel."

"The track 'Samgel' is based on a dark and primal character that has been a recurring presence in my life," Esther explained to The FADER in an email. The video is a visual portrayal of the characters and myself as narrator in-between them. Samgel has been a massive influence in my writing for the upcoming EP — I can hear her (sometimes him) in most of the songs. This track is the ultimate expression of it all, and something that I can carry out my favourite pastime of raging-and-crying-whilst-also-pulling-some-shapes to.” Watch above.
