Rami Malek plays the Queen singer in the film, with production taking place in the U.K. The "personal health matter concerning Bryan and his family" puts a pause on a film that has been in the works for 12 years. Following a laundry list of producers, directors, and leads, Singer and Malek decided to take over the job in late 2016.

It’s unclear whether the delay will postpone the film’s release, slated for December 25, 2018.
