Barack Obama's tweet responding to violence in Charlottesville has been named as the most 'liked' of 2017 by Twitter. The former president’s August 13 tweet was the most liked and second-most retweeted tweet of the year. His message read, “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion…" The tweet is also the most popular in Twitter history.

Ariana Grande’s response to the suicide bombing outside her Manchester concert in May was the second most 'liked' tweet of the year with over 2.6m interactions. Obama’s show of support for John McCain after the senator announced his brain cancer diagnosis was the third most 'liked' tweet of 2017.

Meanwhile, K-Pop group BTS has been named as the most tweeted about musicians in the U.S., and the most talked about celebrity globally. BTS topped a list of musicians including Nicki Minaj, Harry Styles, and Chance The Rapper.
