There's a fine line between abstract couture and something that looks like it was constructed during a craft night, and Australian designer Zhuxuan does it seamlessly. Inspired by folded and pleated structures of origami paper art and organism shapes seen under a microscope, Zhuxuan creates conceptual clothing that challenge the limitations of fabric and silhouettes, while also encouraging the wearer to examine their relationship to their spatial surroundings.

It's high-brow in its concept and execution, and the work translates into massive layered structures, all full of delicacy and imagination. Zhuxuan's designs appeal to the bold and boundary-pushing, which makes sense that the line has found fans in the likes of Kelsey Lu and Björk, who have both worn the line's accordion-like designs in their performances. See some of Zhuxuan's work below, and follow the line on Instagram.
