Snotty Nose Rez Kids is the Vancouver-based rap duo of Darren “Young D” Metz and Quinton “Yung Trybez” Nyce, two artists from the Haisla Nation who are changing the face of rap on Turtle Island a.k.a. Canada. Their most recent album The Average Savage was nominated on the shortlist for the 2018 Polaris Music Prize, earning praise for a kinetic and cartoonish chemistry similar to Flatbush Zombies, as well as a bold confrontation of white supremacy with classic hip-hop tropes sprinkled throughout.

Today The FADER is premiering "Creator Made An Animal," a new song from their upcoming project Trapline. A collaboration with Vancouver's Boslen, the song features a brooding beat Mike Dean would be pleased with, and the same energetic defiance that we urgently need. Except now, you can mosh to it. The black-and-white clip is directed by Jerome Hof, and features the rappers performing in forests and the suburbs with some fantastic masks.

'Creator Made an Animal' is our way of paying homage to the place that we call home as our spirits awaken and our people rise up.

'Creator Made an Animal' carries an aggressive and assertive energy that imitates the way society portrays Indigenous people and People of Colour across Turtle Island. Our ancestors were stereotyped as savages, and we are often regarded as the pissed-off generation who haven’t gotten over what colonization has done to our lands and to our people. Through stylish delivery, we proclaim ourselves as the Father 7th Generation and let the world know that we aren’t changing for anyone. The future is ours.

We are powerful as human beings and it’s integral that we respect the knowledge that was passed down from our ancestors. Many of us also carry their pain, but every single one of us carry their power. Embrace that power, stay true to that power and to yourself!

Trapline is out May 10.
