Diplo is making country music now, and some small part of you knew this was coming

Somewhere in a record label's penthouse office in Los Angeles, a finger of an ancient monkey paw has curled: Diplo has announced a country music project under his birth name Thomas Wesley, and shared the song "So Long" featuring Nashville singer Cam. Watch the lyric video above.

You might think that Diplo would lean on his hip-hop credentials now that a country-rap tune is the biggest song in America, but he instead continues to tap EDM for an inoffensive, Kacey Musgraves-esque love song. The song is the first of “several forthcoming collaborations with country artists," says a press release.

Diplo's recent career has included the Europa EP, his Grammy-winning collaboration with Mark Ronsen called Silk City, and LSD, a team-up with Sia and Labrinth.
