Beyoncé, Thom Yorke, Elton John, Pharrell and more have been shortlisted for the Best Original Song Oscar, to be awarded at the 92nd Academy Awards. Five songs from the currently 15-track shortlist will be eventually nominated for the official ceremony, to be held early next year. Songs nominated include “Spirit,” Beyoncé’s Lion King track; Pharrell and Chad Hugo’s Black Godfather song “Letter to My Godfather;” Yorke’s Motherless Brooklyn song “Daily Battles;” and songs by Elton John from both The Lion King and Rocketman. Notably, the list does not include Taylor Swift, whose original song for the upcoming Cats adaptation, “Beautiful Ghosts,” was eligible for the award. I guess Taylor will have to look to get the O in her EGOT next year!
