Swedish singer-songwriter José González announced the upcoming release of his first album in six years, Local Valley, on September 17. Alongside the announcement, González shared the project's second single, the ethereal "Visions." The track serves as the follow-up to “El Invento" from earlier this year.

“We are the apes that are starting to understand the universe and our place in it,” González said about the song in a statement, adding that it was inspired by the earliest days of the COVID-19 pandemic. “The lyrics came to me in early February 2020 just as there were more and more tweets about the possible pandemic. The topic of the song felt very timely. You can hear the birds and ambient sounds from the veranda, along with a layer of synth loops in the background.”

González's last album, Vestiges & Claws, dropped back in 2015.
