Molly Nilsson reveals new album Extreme, shares “Absolute Power”

The underground songwriter’s latest drops on January 15, 2022.

When Molly Nilsson spoke with The FADER last year, the Swedish-born singer-songwriter saw 2021 as a year full of possibility. "I do think that this is a good time to sort of change habits," she said. "It's a good time to quit smoking, to quit bad behavior towards yourself and others." Whether or not the past 10 months have actually looked like that for you, there's always the possibility of tomorrow. And, since every big change needs a motivational anthem, Nilsson has delivered one in her new single "Absolute Power."

The first single from her upcoming project, Extreme (the follow-up to 2018's splendid LP 2020), "Absolute Power" is all crunchy power chords and thundering drum machines against Nilsson's wry, ghostly vocals that describe unrelenting effort in the face of bleak odds. "It’s me, vs. the black hole at the center of the galaxy," she sings, "Who we are vs. Who we’d like to be/Get ready for the Fight of the Century." It's an instant workout playlist addition, and in that vein, Nilsson dresses up like a Street Fighter character for the music video, shadowboxing on a roof.

Extreme is out January 15 via Dark Skies Association and Night School Records.
