Morray and Benny The Butcher are perfect foils on “Never Fail”

The colorful Fayetteville rapper-singer and the Buffalo backpacker go toe to toe on the new track.

Morray and Benny The Butcher are an unlikely pair. Morray is a rapper-singer from Fayetteville, North Carolina often found spitting emotional verses over weepy guitar beats. Benny, on the other hand, writes bleak bars and prefers old school instrumentals. On their new track, "Never Fail," they meet outside both of their comfort zones, teaming up over a colossal trap beat by Smatt Sertified, Akachi, and Sonickaboom of 808 Mafia.

"Never Fail" is Morray's track — his breathless chorus-verse-chorus takes us well over halfway through, and he's given the final word at the end — but it would feel incomplete without Benny's 16 bars. Morray's lightning pace might start to grate if it ran for the track's full three minutes and 20 seconds, but Benny pops in at just the right time to keep the song grounded.

"Never Fail" comes with a Whipalo-directed video in which Morray raps on New Yorks rooftops and sits on a billboard emblazened with the track title before Benny enters in a black Rolls Royce Phantom to take take him on a tour of the city.
