Most people celebrate their arrival at adulthood by doing something mildly illegal, but PG County, Maryland's Marcus Morton honored his 18th trip around the sun today with the release of learn 2 swim, his third album as redveil. A follow-up to Bittersweet Cry and Niagara — released when Morton was 15 and 16, respectively — the new record adds ten novel tracks to its two previously released singles, "diving board" and "better," both of which arrived in March.
Earlier this month, Morton previewed the new record with "eighteen," a compilation of advice from his mentors — including words from Saba, Denzel Curry, MAVI, and Rich Brian — set to a simple, soulful piano beat. Entirely produced by Morton himself, learn 2 swim is a musical expansion of this coming-of-age concept, taking on major existential issues most rappers twice his age still shy away from. The resulting product is imperfect, but its rawness is a testament to redveil's relentless pursuit of artistic growth.
In addition to arriving on Morton's birthday, the new project comes a week before he hits the road in support of Freddie Gibbs' Space Rabbit Tour. Listen to learn 2 swim and view all of redveil's upcoming dates below.
