Oliver Sim shares “GMT” (Jamie xx Remix)

Two-thirds of The xx reunite on a new version of Sim’s recent solo single.

It's a surprisingly rare thing to get a Jamie xx remix. Despite the English artist's renown as a producer and a DJ, he's only publically released a handful of remixes in his career for artists like Adele, Radiohead, and Four Tet. There hasn't been a new Jamie remix for the past five years, but the drought ends today with his remix of "GMT," the latest single from Oliver Sim, his bandmate in The xx.

The new version clocks in at nine minutes and forty seconds and justifies every second of its epic length. There's a dampened, distant quality to the song, from its stretched Brian Wilson sample to house-inspired melodies, that gels nicely with Oliver Sim's lovesick lyrics. It's a great song for living in your memory, whether your heart's desire is another person or the club. The "GMT" remix joins the previously released singles "Romance With A Memory," "Fruit," and "Hideous."
