Weyes Blood has shared a video for “Grapevine,” the recently released third single from her forthcoming fifth studio LP, And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow. The clip — a ghostly reimagining of the track’s themes directed by Rick Farin of Actual Objects — follows the inventive visual treatment for the record’s lead offering, “It’s Not Just Me, It’s Everybody.”

The song studies the remains of a dead relationship, with the protagonist looking back fondly on memories of an emotionally unavailable man who broke her heart. “If a man can’t see his shadow / He can block your sun all day / He can make you sad / He has the power to take his love away,” she begins, before launching into the tragic tale of a romance that lived and died on California’s Interstate 5 (better known as the Grapevine).

In the video, the backdrop is a seasonally spooky, deserted road, where Weyes Blood’s car has broken down (“In an old ghost town, right around / Where they got James Dean”). And the man (an “Emotional cowboy / With no hat and now boots”) is, in this case, a red-eyed apparition that floats behind her as she wanders the increasingly surreal landscape.
