GloRilla has been tapped to perform alongside some of rap’s biggest legends this Sunday at the Grammys’ celebration of hip-hop’s 50th anniversary. The 23-year-old Memphis emcee will pick up where she left off in her breakout 2022 at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards, where she’ll share the stage with Big Boi, Busta Rhymes, De La Soul, DJ Drama, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Missy Elliott, Future, Grandmaster Flash, Grandmaster Melle Mel, Ice-T, Lil Baby, Lil Wayne, the Lox, Method Man, Nelly, Public Enemy, Queen Latifah, Rahiem, Rakim, Run-D.M.C., Salt-N-Pepa, Scarface, Spinderella, Spliff Star, Swizz Beatz, and Too $hort. Questlove will direct and produce the event, and LL Cool J will introduce it.
“For five decades, hip-hop has not only been a defining force in music, but a major influence on our culture,” Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, wrote in a press release announcing the segment. “Its contributions to art, fashion, sport, politics, and society cannot be overstated. I’m so proud that we are honoring it in such a spectacular way on the Grammy stage. It is just the beginning of our year-long celebration of this essential genre of music.”
The 2023 Grammys will take place on Sunday, February 5 at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena (formerly the Staples Center) starting at 8 p.m. EST. Hosted by Trevor Noah for the third year in a row, the event will stream live on CBS and free online for Paramount+ subscribers. Last Wedesday (February 25), the Academy announced the ceremony’s first wave of performers: Bad Bunny, Mary J. Blige, Brandi Carlile, Luke Combs, Steve Lacy, Lizzo, Kim Petras, and Sam Smith.
