El Muerto, a Sony movie set in the Spider-Man cinematic universe, has been officially removed from the calendar after originally being scheduled for January 12, 2024. International sensation Bad Bunny is set to star in it, marking the first time the studio has hired a Latino actor in a lead role of a live-action superhero movie.

The pop star will play Juan Carlos Estrada Sánchez, aka El Muerto, a wrestler who gains superpowers from a mask that was handed down to him by his ancestors. While the movie is set in the Spider-Verse, it’s unknown if the iconic superhero will make an appearance.

Back in March, there were already rumors that El Muerto making the release date was “very unlikely.” In April, Diario AS confirmed with the singer’s representatives that the movie was no longer in active production, although they told the paper it wasn’t canceled either.
