DJ extraordinaire Purp is a New York City mainstay for a reason. Her audacious song selection and self-assured disposition behind the decks make her a standout in the five boroughs, consistently playing and throwing parties all days of the week. Now, Purp has delivered her first original production in the form of “Ride,” the lead single from her upcoming debut EP. Then/Now is set to release September 9 on Suzi Analogue‘s Never Normal Records.

“Ride” is effortlessly sexy. Reverberating vocals repeatedly ask the song’s central question, “Do you wanna go for a ride?,” over booming drums and sparkling synths, producing an ominous yet enticing quality that makes you want to hop in the car and follow Purp wherever she goes. It’s simple, yet effective — a perfect party song, whether you’re pregaming or already in the club.

“The song just feels like a summer night in Brooklyn going to the club with your girls,” Purp tells The FADER. “It’s the appetizer and my EP is the main course. The song feels like a good introduction to how I want people to know me as a producer and musician. I wanted to start producing now because we need more femme producers that are hot and talented. I wanted to flex and show people I wear a lot of hats and I’m good at all of them. Suzi Analogue gave me the opportunity to produce this tape and I was absolutely not turning that down.”
