On Sunday, November 4, the rapper expressed his support for the Palestinian civilians caught in the middle of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, saying that he “can’t watch what's happening in the world and remain silent.”
"I can't imagine the pain people are feeling,” Cudi said, referring to the growing number of casualties resulting from the Israeli government’s ongoing attacks on the Gaza strip, which is home to two million people.
“Seeing their entire neighborhoods bombed, losing generations of family members, parents crying over their children's lifeless bodies, communities turning into mass graves, people digging through rubble of their homes in hopes of finding remains of their loved ones,” he continued. As a result, he may push back the release of his upcoming album Insano, as “it doesn’t feel right to share the music I have coming out and pretend like there isn’t a part of the world burning, thousands of people [are] being murdered.”
In the following slide, Cudi also sympathized with Israeli civilians, adding that he recognized “there's more to the story than what's happened over these past few weeks.”
“And it goes without saying, I love my Jewish brothers and sisters and condemn any violence towards them," he said. "Your losses are unimaginable and you are all in my prayers. My prayers also go out to the hostages and their families, may they be returned safely."
Even so, Cudi then ended his statement by making it clear that he still stood "with the people of Palestine as they demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza."
He concluded, "My heart goes out to all my brothers and sisters of all faiths and backgrounds who are suffering. Free Palestine!!"
According to the Associated Press, the Health Ministry in Gaza has reported that 9,448 Palestinians — mostly women and children — have been killed since October 7. The air strikes, bombings, and blockade come after Hamas’ surprise attack on the Supernova Music Festival, which the Israeli government has responded to with ongoing retaliatory attacks. An additional 1,400 Israelis have also reportedly died during the conflict, while 242 are being held hostage by the militant group.
The FADER has reached out to representatives for Kid Cudi. In the meantime, you can read his entire statement on the conflict below.
