Timbaland is facing criticism for saying Justin Timberlake should’ve “put a muzzle” on ex-girlfriend Britney Spears.

According to Page Six, Timberlake’s longtime collaborator made the derisive comment during a recent panel at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.

“She going crazy, right?,” he asked while talking about Timberlake’s “Cry Me a River” — a Timbaland-produced song rumored to have been about Spears’ alleged infidelity — “making headlines again” thanks to the “Womanizer” singer’s new memoir, The Woman in Me.

He then went on to reference Spears’ book and its detailed account of her relationship with Timberlake by adding, “I wanted to call and say, ‘JT, you gotta put a muzzle on that girl.’”

Unsurprisingly, Timbaland’s comment was met with backlash from fans, who expressed their disgust with his misogynistic comments.

"I’m glad britney is speaking up, their reactions are just proving that everything she said is true," as one fan wrote, while another pointed toward Spears’ abusive conservatorship.

"Timbaland saying that Justin Timberlake should have put a ‘muzzle’ on Britney is actually INSANE considering Britney has been treated like a caged animal for the past 13 years," the person said. Meanwhile, a third critic added, “in light of her life’s events, this screams misogyny and is so malicious and nasty.”

The FADER has reached out to representatives for Timbaland and Spears for comment. In the meantime, you can see some of the reactions to Timbaland's comments below.
