MTV
Every year, the VMAs chooses a Push artist of the year who gets the privilege of providing crucial entertainment during the ceremony's pre-show event. Past alumni include great artists like Shenseea and Kim Petras but in my experience sometimes the time slot can result in some awkward-feeling performances; not at the fault of the performers themselves but because it's kinda weird to have to put on a full show in the middle of red carpet arrivals for mostly press and staff members.
Impressively, that wasn't the case with this year's VMA pre-show entertainers, Katseye. The girl group extraordinaire, who've been experiencing a breakout yet with hit singles "Gnarly" and a viral Gap campaign, brought the house down with performances of "Gnarly" and "Gabriella," turning out an actually excited audience that knew every lyric and choreographed dance move. It was enough to get me to put my phone down and stop scrolling, if that means anything. Watch clips below.
To be fair, members Manon, Daniela, Sophia, Yoonchae, Megan, and Lara were already having a ball of a night when they pulled up to the red carpet in matching black and silver mini dresses — which were accessorized with coordinating mini Labubus (with custom wigs, none the less).
Katseye is nominated for their first VMAs moonman in MTV Push Performance of the Year for their 2024 single "Touch." Even if they don't win, they're already winners in our eyes.
