We've been known to enjoy music that sounds like it either comes from outer space or the bottom of a bong, so when we were presented with New York's Amazing Baby, who sound like Bongs In Space, it didn't take long to decide that they were pretty great. It also didn't take long for us to want to know more about them, but since they are just starting out we didn't want to waste a full-time editor's valuable skills. So after the jump read our intern's recent interview with Will and Simon, the creative masterminds of Amazing Baby, during which talk about Eddie Money, diarrhea, kissing label ass and playing at Medieval Times or a volcano. We'd see them at either, but we'll settle for a free show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg this Sunday, July 13th at 6:30.

What's going on right now with you guys?
Simon: Recording and playing and recording. We're releasing a single in the UK hopefully in October, album dropping in 2009. Label stuff is on the DL for now.

How long have the two of you been playing together?
Simon: Since January 1st 2008.

How many bands were you in before you knew you had found one that might stick?
Simon: In Brooklyn, only two. In New York City I have been in about 20. I can't wait for one to stick.

Will: Those bands were incredible, full of awesome moments and massive let downs—the differences between those bands and Amazing Baby is that the songs came first, not the names.

When did you realize that Amazing Baby was maybe a little bit better than your previous bands?
Simon: Couldn't say. My legacy of brilliance is undeniable.

What do you do when you're not recording?
Simon: Work and bone!

How's recording going?
Simon: Like musical Diarrhea, baby!

How does it feel not being signed to a label?
Simon: Its the greatest feeling in the world. Our songs can be as racist as we want without some nerd being like, "Don't call those people that." Yeah? Fuck you! Here's your advance back...you can pay yourself to suck your own dick!

How is it playing shows and being interviewed without even having an album out?
Simon: It's like rain on your wedding day!

How have your live shows been?
Simon: Basically, live shows are our rehearsals for rehearsals. Does that make any sense?

Yes. Do people know the band or the songs yet?
Simon: I sincerely doubt it.

You guys are friendly with the dudes from MGMT. Have they influenced you guys at all?
 Simon: Let me put it this way, at the Middlesex & New Haven County 4-H Fair we all got stoned, ate deep fried Oreos and saw Eddie Money play for 15 people. He was drunk and his sax sounded like shit. We learned a valuable lesson that day.

How does the writing/arranging usually work?
Simon: Around a magnum of Barefoot Zinfandel.

Will, you grew up on Martha's Vineyard and you guys are going to play there next weekend. What was it like growing up there? Does the island have any significance in your music?
 Will: Ecstasy is a word that comes to mind. Earth Shattering Visuals of an ocean and coast in constant transition. Innocence and corruption over water.

Any plans for a big tour in the future?
Simon: Fuck Yeah! But again, DL for now.

If you could do an Amazing Baby show anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Simon: Inside a volcano would be dope. Maybe Medieval Times.

What are you going to do after the album eventually comes out?
Simon: Stand outside Virgin Records and try and sell it to people.
