The fact that Dungen was at the Bowery Ballroom this weekend was news good enough, but the appearance of the Swedes is almost always accompanied by a rare appearance from the mighty Endless Boogie, and that's news even better. Two birds, one stone! The Boogie seemed to get a pretty lukewarm reception from the Dungen psych-fantastic crowd—there was nary a seat in the Bowery's basement bar while the Boogs was onstage upstairs, but hey! - that shit's not for everyone. If you find Beefheart Boogaloo vocals to be a put-on; if you don't get a buzz from Swampy riffage and explosive solo-age; if you aren't thrilled by the simple pleasure of a rhythm section that takes it down (a little bit softer now... a little bit softer now) and then brings it back up (A LITTLE LOUDER NOW...A LITTLE LOUDER NOW) like the seven piece band at a debutante ball doing "Shout"; if none of that strikes your fancy, then yeah, sit downstairs, have a beer and wait for Gustav and company. We'll be upstairs, rockin along.
