Everyone’s A Star

We had a whole cell phone notepad entry filled with observations from last night's Hot 97 Summer Jam at Giant's Stadium. Everything from the cuteness of Mary J Blige (who murdered it!) shouting out all of LL Cool J's children by name, to the unintentional hilarity of Mister Cee (during an extended Lil Kim tribute) shouting "everyone sing along... especially the ladies!" before dropping "I used to be scared of the dick, now I throw lips to the shit" off "Big Momma Thang". There were quick jots reminding us to bloggily compare Max B and Da Brat's respective afro puffs, ruminate on TI's one sleeve off / one sleeve on sweater look, and give all the reasons why Jamie Foxx's inevitable Vegas review 15 years from now will be the greatest show ever. But why bother with a wrap up when you can just read Illseed (aka A-Trak's favorite rap gossipist) giving the play by play? Instead, we're just going to note that the capacity crowd got it's livest for the opening notes of the Mobb's "Shook Ones Pt 2" and the Dips' "I Really Mean It" (although the girl next to us in stunna shades convulsed all Ed Sullivan Show when Jim Jones brought Yung Joc onstage), and - after the jump - list in ascending order of personal preference all the things Jermaine Dupri had on stage during his set.

  • Da Brat

  • Da Brat's belt buckle

  • Dem Franchise Boyz

  • Giant Dem Franchise Boyz cardboard cut-out posters, previously seen tied to lightposts all along Route 3

  • Awkward Janet Jackson

  • Somewhat less awkward Mariah Carey

  • Wads of one dollar bills

  • The Kid Slim (who wrote Bow Wow's unstoppable "Like You" and seemed genuinely thrilled to be onstage)

  • John Williams' Star Wars theme

  • Dude in a
sports mascot outfit of indeterminate origin that was altered to be a armed and legged version of the So So Def logo head
