Donuts Are Forever

It's tempting, a brief year after his passing, to eulogize J-Dilla with flowery prose and heroic metaphors, but really, it's still so simply about his seemingly effortless jams and rockers that we'd rather just point you in the direction of good times celebrating his life, of which there are many. Tomorrow, you can head to Nightlife with the Beat Junkies at the Hollywood Knitting Factory or Donuts Are Forever, hosted by Pharoah Monch and Rich Medina, at Galapagos in Brooklyn. There are even more Dilla-related events posted up at Stones Throw. To tide you over until then, DJ Soul (who's guesting at the Galapagos party) sent out a Jay-Z-ified remix from his all-dilla Assorted Donuts mixtape, available free online very soon. It's called "Don't Cry" and it is typical Jay Dee: brilliant, shattered soul.
