We witnessed El-P at the Troub last night and excuse us for the hazy pic, but our camera was crying. Despite our hopes for the contrary, last night was the death of that tiny part of our brains that held Company Flow in high esteem. After his opener smashed his drum 'n' bass machine in a tantrum, The Product came out in an orange jumpsuit and fake blood coming out of his ears (ours was real) for, like, who knows why? He was at Guantanamo? He got mad about this backpack and Marine recruiters for a second, did a couple more songs and almost all of "Drive" from his new album with no music playing. And before the Jukies send emails about some raw dog lyricist lounge shit, do you really enjoy watching a dude do a smug three verse a cappella of a new song just so you can fully grasp the gravity of the words coming out of his mouth? If you do that's cool, but when the soundsystem actually stopped working for a few minutes and El-P didn't bother to say a word, we'd kinda had enough. On the other hand, we did think we were watching Herc from The Wire rap along to every song for awhile which was amusing, but it turned out it was just some dude.
