Live: The Siren Festival

July 23, 2007

Here's the funny thing about the Siren Festival: it's really hot, the sound is kind of terrible and the huge crowds are inescapable. But, it's still fun. The picture above is proof of the next level atmosphere of the whole event (don't hate!), and we even got caught up in the weirdo vibes of the boardwalk and thought about buying some Coney Island tie-dyes. We're still regretting passing on those, but the free music was consolation enough. In between hot dogs and stale pretzels we caught FADER favorites The Black Lips, Voxtrot, Dr. Dog and the long lost Miss Maya. Easily the highlight of the whole event, Dr Dog under the open skies made us long for a wooden raft and a fishing pole so we could tip our straw hats and jam to the day's music. Very few people seemed to care about seeing headliners The New York Dolls—a show we skipped in favor of, uh, a subway ride home—but between the Dog's good vibes and the Black Lips' live chicken (it ran around the stage for awhile) we didn't really feel like we missed anything. We'll have some interviews later, but for now, make the jump for some of our photos from the day.
