Stylee Fridays: Albert Hammond Jr on Style and His New Suits
- story Chioma Nnadi
- photo Guy Eppel
Albert Hammond Jr launched his line of suits for Confederacy earlier this month, a collection the fashion press had been eagerly anticipating for months, and something we’d been quietly hoping he’d do for much, much longer. There are few men that can run the sartorial gamut of suiting quite like Hammond, and with everything from epaulettes on hunter-green suits to stunningly spiffy three-pieces in the line, it all looks and feels just like him. Alongside stylist and Confederacy store owner Ilaria Urbinati, Hammond put everything together from start to finish, and when he spoke to us via phone from his parents’ house in California, he was already percolating new ideas for round two. Q&A: Fashion Legend Jean-Charles de Castelbajac
- story THE FADER
When we last spoke to madcap French designer Jean-Charles Castelbajac in the summer of 2006 he was just getting his feet wet in US waters, relaunching his eponymous line and talking vintage Castelbajac teddybear suits and TV on the Radio. Fast-forward about six seasons and the French designer is ramping up for the launch of a brand new label, JCDC—the nickname given to him by his grime buddies. UK-based journalist Joseph Patterson caught up with Castelbajac to get the scoop on the new line (apparently Ebony Bones will perform at the debut show at London Fashion Week). Read the full interview after the jump.

Alexi Wasser is Completely, Totally Boy Crazy
- story THE FADER
Before we get completely obsessed with telling you all about our summer music issue we want to make sure you got thorough with all of our David Byrne issue, which actually included some non-Byrne content. Maybe the pole furthest on the compass was our interview with Alexi Wasser, who runs the magical blog I’m Boy Crazy, where she writes lots and lots about her love of dudes. But, in many ways, that outward dude love and all of its pitfalls to consummation is really just the world’s weird mirror back on ourselves. Wasser bemoans the inevitable crappiness of romance and endless disappointments while always praising the meaty self-discovery on the journey. The above advertisement for herself should give you a taste of her. For more, check Matthew Schnipper’s Q+A from F61 after the jump.
Stylee Fridays: Q&A with Corpus
- story THE FADER
It’s been scarily sad to hear one designer after another pull out of New York Fashion Week, with only a matter of weeks left on the clock. Thankfully there a few designers out there who have plenty of reasons to be popping bottles right now, like LA-based menswear label Corpus who recently got word of their Ecco Domani award, a $25,000 grant that only seven emerging designers get their hands on every year. Corpus first caught our attention with their awesome denim fits and low-key treatments many seasons ago and have steadily built the line with a certain laid-back, carefree distinction. We stole a moment with one half of Corpus, Keith Richardson, earlier this week to congratulate him on the win and see how all the new-found crazy-hectic Fashion Week prep was going.
Style Q+A: UNDRCRWN
- story THE FADER
The new UNDRCRWN x Adidas sneakers dropped earlier this week, a mini collection that’s essentially a footwear homage to winning, in three parts. The label has admittedly been making champion-shaped holes in the game since its inception, sitting as it does at the very intersection of basketball and style. We’ve had our eye on them since those Biggie tees came out and recently had a chance to talk to Dustin Canalin and Bryon Sheng, the creative minds behind UNDRCRWN, about the new collaboration, as well as some archival favorites.
Stylee Fridays: Q+A with Silver Spoon
- story THE FADER
We first met Avigail and Damian of London-based label Silver Spoon last year. They spent the summer of 2007 in New York and were busy spreading the word about the new line, getting up to some old fashioned mischief besides. When they came by the office with a suitcase full of the loveliest, most buttery leather jackets we’d seen in a long time, featuring their line in the magazine was basically a no-brainer. The couple have since expanded ten-fold, and for Spring ‘09 designed a collection that runs the gamut of street-smart luxe — lots of gorgeous color-infused minis and tough-girl bombers for the ladies and polished but decidedly laid-back separates for the boys. Kanye happens to be one of their newest fans and his featuring of their tailored sweats on his blog ended up getting the stylee parts of the internets all atwitter. We spoke to Damian earlier this week right after a marathon day of shopping with friend Mariel Haenn. The stylist was on the prowl for new designers to add to Rihanna’s wardrobe, and luckily Damian was at hand to point her in the right direction.
Style: Q+A with The Hellers
- story THE FADER
Brother-sister duo Dania and Yoram Heller know how to keep it in the family. Their LA-via-Tel Aviv-based clothing line The Hellers, may cover vast distances (and cultures) but it doesn’t keep them from creating modern styles in retro-fitted deadstock fabrics. Juxtaposing east with west in not just their California-bred styles but their Israeli fashion experience, the Hellers have managed to make jewels from what most would consider played styles. We talked with them over the phone—in a conference call crossing nine time zones—to see how they make it work.
Stylee Fridays: Acne Paper Issue 7
- story THE FADER
We often refer to the FADER editorial office as “The Fish Bowl” mostly because, aside from our work stations and our physical bodies, there isn’t really space for much else. We have, however, been very diligent in the style department about saving a lil room for our Acne Paper magazines (five out of the seven published sit safely on the shelves). Acne Paper is a bi-annual title made by Swedish denim collective Acne Jeans. We like to save and peruse the issues because as well as stunning fashion editorials, the stories in there are awesomely unexpected and thought-provoking. The newest issue, for example, is all about tradition and features an interview with the head of the guild of English Butlers, a tête-à-tête with Noam Chomsky and an intensely gut-wrenching essay on love and relationships by Nan Goldin where she declares “What we call falling madly in love with someone is not so much evidence of how deeply we care for our love, but more the relief that we’re not alone anymore.” Crumbs! One of our favorite supermodels from the late ’90s, Guinevere, also happens to be on the cover.
Acne Paper editor-in-chief Thomas Persson, who splits his time between Paris and Stockholm, was in New York this week for the launch of issue #7. We managed to catch up with him before yesterday’s Acne Paper launch soirée at the New York library.
Style Q+A: Worship Worthy on Their Fall ‘08 Collection
- story THE FADER
The ladies in the know at NYC blog Worship Worthy have been supplying us with sartorial goodness for quite a while, so it was only a matter of time until they channeled their fashion expertise into a woman’s collection. This fall they’ve created a risqué editorial page, launching their first collection with a sexually explicit bondage theme manifested on soft tees in iconic prints, cryptic fonts and beauty queen badges. We’re not surprised though, we’ve had a keen eye on these women since we chatted them up in F52. Check the interview with Style Editor Chioma Nnadi after the jump.
Style: Q+A With Eugenie Huang Of Deka Ray
- story THE FADER
No one could ever make claim that Eugenie Huang, from New York based jewelry line Deka Ray, is a slacker. In addition to being a partner at an architecture firm, she spends her free time crafting delicate geometric necklaces in elaborately beaded ropes. The pieces from her most recent collection, Outland, use organic, earthy materials with modern embellishments. Read our interview with Huang after the jump.
