Look, Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino was a FADER intern last year. We’ve established that. But she is now nearing full-on diva status with many, many jams under her belt and many more on the way. We don’t even remember that one time she FUCKED UP OUR COFFEE ORDER. JK we don’t send interns to get coffee, it’s the only time we get outside. But for real, if we had known Bethany, and her bandmate Bobb Bruno, were capable of music this good, we would’ve fired her instantly. “The people need to hear this!” we would’ve said as we pushed her out the front door. But we didn’t so we just enjoyed her non-musical presence for the short time she was here. And now we enjoy her presence wherever we can find it. Today, that is on Black Iris, the label releasing Best Coast’s latest single, both sides of which make us want to move to Tahiti and open an umbrella stand. So good! An Interview With Best Coast at The Levi’s/FADER Fort NYC

Around this time last year, Bethany Cosentino was a young, budding intern here at The FADER, punching in her time card every day like the rest of us. Today she goes by the name of Best Coast, has blonde hair, lives in sunny Southern California (which she constantly dares to flaunt in front of our East Coast-loving faces), and is pretty much the coolest girl we know. Alex Frank, resident style assistant, at least thinks so. And yesterday, between the buzz and the shows and more buzz, Alex got to interview his best friend and former intern buddy on camera in our swanky room at the Ace Hotel, where we’re staging this year’s Levi’s®/FADER Fort during CMJ.

The penultimate installment of the Visionary Podcast series, curated by The FADER and presented by ABSOLUT as part of our ongoing efforts to advance and advocate the art and music we love, is about “Something.” Yes, everything is about something, true, but if that something is nothing then what does anything really mean? Who knows!
Oddly, the most ambiguous of all the podcast inspirations was the easiest one to select. We took something from our girl Bethany Cosentino bka Best Coast, a few things from Sincerely Yours signee JJ, a little more something from Free Energy, everything from Tanlines, and finished it off with a horizon-gazing track from Nosaj Thing. Are we totally blowing up spots by saying we have the coolest interns ever? AKA we are the proud bosses or whatever (bosses sounds weird) of former FADER intern Bethany Cosentino aka Best Coast aka the current author of our style column Thrintage. Pretty sure this video for the stoner gloss of “Sun Was High (So Was I)” is a fan video (OMG our baby has fans!) and it pairs some French greys and browns and reassured, loving lovemaking nicely with the song’s pretty haze. Hope there is infinitely more romantic bedroom weed fuzz to come.
