Ghetto Palms 75: Flare Riddim / Giants / Ze Bula remix / Baobab

A certain operatic feel connects these two new jump up riddims from ZJ Sparks and Ding Dong’s Ravers Clavers crew, respectively. To be specific, Giants is scored to the opening shots of a suspense thriller, the pulsing cello-and-synth foreshadowing the drama that’s about pop off. Flare on the other hand sounds like the climactic point when the violinists in the orchestra pit look they’re trying to saw the necks off their instruments. Maybe someday, when people from this soundsystem generation are old and rich, the New York Philharmonic will be actually be playing these parts while Ding Dong and Chi Ching yell on the mic and make them pull up every five seconds.

It’s. It’s New Seraaani. R Six Riddim + “Skip To My Luu” MP3

Serani’s moment in New York was summer 2008, with “Doh,” “No Games” and “She Loves Me” all on constant rotation on both pirate stations and Hot97, and he’s been trying to get an album filled with that same music out for a while now. Hopefully, that will still happen, but for everyone who’s already ready for some new Serani/Daseca emotional dancehall, here is Serani’s version on Daseca’s new R Six riddim and a random joint that also has dancer-turned-deejay, best named Ding Dong. Both are absurdly upbeat and perfect for the doggy days of summer.

NYC: Ricky Blaze & Ding Dong At Teen Passa

So technically, it’s the weekend before the last weekend of summer, especially if you’re a schoolkid, so you’re probably gonna be out there trying to smoke loosies, drink cheap wine and make out with everyone you see. But kids! There are more constructive things to do with your time! Like load all of your new supplies into your backpack ORRRRRR dance your face off in Brooklyn this Saturday at the Teen Passa Passa party (”where teen dancers buss!”). In Issue 53, we profiled Ricky Blaze and his place in the growing scene of indigenous Brooklyn dancehall, and Ricky’s performing there along with Ding Dong (FADER 38), Fresh Prince (hear him with Ricky on “How Mi Look”), Jason Fox (”Aunt Jackie”), DJ Webstar (”Chicken Noodle Soup”) and a grip of other folks. There’s also a troupe appearing called the Acid Dancers who we have to think are going to be mindblowing in every way. We’ll be there sometime between 2pm and 9pm perfecting our Gully Creepa on the sidelines (we’re not teenagers), so holler if you’re in the neighborhood. Full flyer after the jump.

Audio: Ricky Blaze f. Ding Dong, “For Life”

We are fucking with autotune in a way that you cannot possibly imagine over here at The FADER. It’s like a disease T-Pain gave us at a niteclub that we cannot, nay do not, want to cure. We even order food in autotune. For real. It’s pretty annoying actually for the dudes who answer the phone at Gobo. Which is exactly why Ricky Blaze is quickly becoming our local hero. He’s Brooklyn-based and constantly popping off shows at clubs like Albany Manor, Club Peppers and Rum Jungle, so if you get a chance check for him. And since we don’t like to leave you emptyhanded, here’s a recent joint he did with another favorite of ours, Ding Dong.
