Video: Dyme Def f. Saigon, “Pick Up Ya Flow”

We pretty much assumed that Saigon had been spending the last year or so building a fort out of rare Transformers toys from Just Blaze’s personal collection, but apparently he’s also been recording raps and hanging out in Seattle with Dyme Def. We’re not sure how a Saigon album would fare in 2009, but this track is as good a direction as any to go in.

Freeload: Dyme Def, “Dreamin”

Most of Dyme Def’s output has been about high energy fast raps, but “Dreamin,” an unreleased track from one of the many EPs the group plans on releasing, throws them into introspective mode. Thankfully, when we say “introspective” we’re not talking about the fair trade coffee navel-gazing that so many Seattle rappers get caught up in but a choir-backed whiney synth jam about the desperation and hope that comes with the pursuit of a music career.

Freeload/Video: Dyme Def, 3 Bad Brothaaas Mixtape

In this short video about Dyme Def they rap lyrics off their Blackberrys. FUTURISTIC. No but for real, some of the shit on this mixtape is pretty next level. From the stadium synths of “That Shit’s Knockin,” to the highly Timbo influenced “I Got You” featuring Young Buck. We’d lay all the praise on Seattle producer Bean One, but we gotta give the dudes in Dyme Def credit too. We’ve said this before, but rap could benefit from a little fun sometimes and usually we’re vague about how exactly that could be accomplished, but they rap over the Pinky & The Brain theme, and we’re pretty sure that is very close to the definition of fun. Download the mixtape below, and watch the short doc up above.

Freeload: Two New Dyme Def Songs

Dyme Def make lyrical gymnastics sound not nerdy and actually kind of cool, they released an album last year that showed promise but then they sort of disappeared, then they came back and leaked a bunch of songs supposedly from an upcoming mixtape. We were skeptical that anything cohesive was going to come from them again, but apparently June 22nd we get Three Bad Brothaas. The two songs here are from that mixtape. Highlights: jock jam turned trunk thumper “That Shit’s Knockin,” and “Follow the Leaders,” which samples—what else—“Follow The Leader”. Dyme Def could definitely have worse touchstones. There a bunch of other songs from the upcoming mixtape to download at their MySpace here.

Audio: Dyme Def, “Get Off Me”

Sometimes it seems like Dyme Def are sitting on a giant pile of bangers in Seattle, so when one escapes we’re pretty happy. Here’s their latest: “Get Off Me,” which manages to be fun without needing to tell you how fun it is. Who knows if this will ever come out, but enjoy for now. Keep your fingers crossed for a mixtape or album or something that collects a series of songs in some kind of order to make its way to the skreets soon.

EDIT: We just called 1-800-DYME-DEF and it told us we could talk to ladies all over the country and then hung up on us.
