Theophilus London & Dam-Funk on BBC Radio

Our dudes Theophilus and Dam shared the spotlight last night on Gilles Peterson’s show. TL was in studio after finishing up a jaunt through the UK with Jack Penate and Dam beamed his section in from Planet Funkazoid (his house in LA). Before and after, Gilles plays his regular mellow jams. Light some “incense” and get your day going.

Live: Four Tet, Jon Hopkins and Mapei at One Step Beyond
- story THE FADER
Friday night we challenged superstition (again) and headed to the latest edition of One Step Beyond at the American Museum of Natural History. Lucky for us, it was anything but unlucky. Mapei set the mood with subtle interwoven grooves and slow electronic raps, the perfect lead-in to DJ sets from Jon Hopkins and Four Tet, who provided much music full of big bangs and sounds so out-there they inspired interpretive dance (this could also have been inspired by the alcohol, but we’re not judging).

NYC: Justin Miller And Kieran Hebden DJ At The Diesel Store
- story THE FADER
When this flyer first came across our desks, we were thinking, This is cool BUT WILL THERE REALLY BE MARGARITAS? Then it occurred to us that it was ridiculous to even question whether there would be margaritas, because it is called Margarita Mondays. Margaritas aside, we’re actually about the music, which will be good because it’s coming from DFA’s Justin Miller and Kieran Hebden aka Four Tet. We know we’ll hear some disco but what will we get from Hebden? If we had to guess, we would say that at some point in the night he will play a Can song. Just a guess though. Either way, it’s Monday, it’s margaritas, and it’s free. RSVP here.
Exclusive Freeload: Four Tet’s ‘DJ Set’ Mix
- story THE FADER
What we love most about this mix, available only at The FADER, is that the first 8-plus minutes of its 30-minute total are taken up by Four Tet’s new epic jammer “Ringer”, which whips us into a glassy-eyed headphone daze of deep thought, before he segues into some crazy brain techno and dubstep science. Like if someone came up and asked us to work on a theory of everything, we could put this mix on loop and jam something out in a couple hours. No problem. And yet, we don’t believe anyone will be asking us that, so we’ll just listen to it and do some pretty crayon drawings. If you want to get into our mindspace, you can get the Ringer EP at Other Music Digital, Bleep, or you can wait until May 6th to get the vinyl wherever you shop. Check the tracklisting after the jump.
