Massive Attack f. Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star, “Paradise Circus (Gui Boratto Remix)” MP3
- story Matthew Schnipper
You know, we wouldn’t have immediately thought Gui Boratto would be the right remixer for Massive Attack (not even to mention the slow velvet of Hope Sandoval), but then we took a look at the cover of his most recent album, Take My Breath Away—little children standing wearing face masks, unable to smell the daisies at their feet. That’s about as beatifically post-apocalyptic as it gets, just like the music of Massive Attack has always been. When these artists were kids they all worried constantly about what would happen to the earth after the sun went out. Now that they’re grown, they’ve become great musicians who still worry about the same thing. This remix of “Paradise Circus,” from Massive Attack’s Heligoland sounds like they are working on their nerves.

M.A.N.D.Y. vs Booka Shade, “Donut (Promo Mini Mix)” MP3
- story Peter Macia
In 2005, when M.A.N.D.Y. and Booka Shade first faced off, The FADER was fully caught up in Southern rap, grime and the first pop hints of a little group named Animal Collective, and yet we still recognized the Germans’ “Body Language” as one for the ages. We even got excited when Will.i.am sampled it a couple years later. We are now a little older and much less excitable, except when the originators release new music themselves, as they will on February 9th with the new “Donut” single on Living The Dream. Along with the original and a radio edit, it features remixes by Boy 8 Bit, Logistics, Gui Boratto, Ben Hoo and James Talk, all of which you can hear bits of in this little mix right here, which actually just sounds like a six minute jam that we will ultimately take our shirts off to many times over the next year. Shade your eyes from the spectacle and download it below.

Freeload: Gui Boratto, “Take My Breath Away”
- story THE FADER
There’s something compelling tangled up in the rise and fall of muffled bass on Gui Boratto’s “Take My Breath Away,” which avoids the curse of technological soullessness that hinders some of Kompakt’s releases. We may not be able to figure out why, exactly, it pushes the buttons it pushes, but any music that gets us to stare longingly out of whatever window is closest to us can’t be bad, right? Like his previous album, Take My Breath Away is front-to-back enjoyable and is perfect to throw on repeat while you “figure some things out.” Take My Breath Away is out digitally February 23rd on Kompakt.
