Video: Jah Cure, “Call on Me”
- story THE FADER
Ladies, if you are feeling lonely rolling dolo, FADER #49 feature subject Jah Cure is there for you. Club or pajama party, beach gazebo or dojo, he will accompany you to wherever you may wander, perhaps while wearing a Fred Perry track jacket or swimming trunks. Maybe both! We are obsessed with the shot of these two in white flowing linens and pointing to each other across the sea. It’s so Karate Kid meets 2005 Hype Williams splitscreen.
Audio Premiere: Jah Cure, “Journey”
- story THE FADER
Since we put Jah Cure in Issue 49, some FADER editors have become mildly obsessed with the dude. Mildly only because we have jobs to do here and can’t really dedicate too much time to any one person other than Akon. But when it’s quittin’ time and the piƱas are pouring, Jah is who we are playing. And fortunately for our copy of True Reflections, Jah Cure has a new album titled Universal Cure out on September 9th and we are debuting the single right here right now. Surprise, his voice still sounds incredible.
Freeload: Junior Reid & Jah Cure f. Mavado & Flo-Rida, “Hot Long Time (Remix)”
- story THE FADER
You might find this elsewhere listed as a Mavado song called “Florida”, but it’s actually just taking over a remix of Junior and Jah’s “Hot Long Time” which has been on our radar for a few weeks. It’s not totally clear how Flo-Rida got on here, but you know, Jah Cure just did a song with mega-dubious Stack$, so this is actually a considerable improvement. And a good excuse to post a picture of a dog trying not be hot long time. (Thanks to Johnny Wonder for the tip-off.)

Video: Stack$ and Jah Cure, “Flying High”
- story THE FADER
Stack$ (the nom de rap of aspiring MC and wealthy music biz scion Yannique Barker), has spent the past year or three traveling in the same Miami money-rap circles as Rick Ross, Scott Storch and one-time Gen F-er Nox, looking for a hit that might finally justify his existence put him on. “Flying High” is not said hit, despite the enjoyable guest spot from FADER fave Jah Cure, who just signed to Stack$’ iced tea-funded SoBe Entertainment. However, “Flying High”’s ode to chalice blazing reeks with goofy (and surprisingly welcome!) throwback charm, just in time for short pants season. Seriously, does this shit not sound like Inner Circle? What you gonna do when they come for you?
Video: Jah Cure, “Sticky”
- story THE FADER
Waking up every morning in Brooklyn to the sound of Mavado jamming from our neighbors’ apartments, cars down on the street and every single kid on the subway’s ringtone is not something we will ever complain about, but now that spring is here, we are trying to keep the vibes calmer for a minute and Jah Cure, who we featured in FADER 49, does that in a way that “I’m On The Rock” cannot (not that Jah didn’t jump on the Mission too). So, as we can tell you firsthand from recent visits to the other side of the island, Jah and “Sticky” in particular are running things. And yeah the video cuts off at the end but that doesn’t mean you can’t go get dude’s whole album because you totally can.
