Premiere: Jokers of the Scene + Acid Girls, Bright Black Magick Mix MP3

We got totally shafted out of seeing Jokers of the Scene and Acid Girls play in NYC this past weekend—something about a gigantic music festival sucking up all our free time? But at least we have this sweet mix to go by, wherein the respective man-duos mix and match each others’ tracks and remixes (including some you-ain’t-heard-it-yet exclusives!) into a burbling brew of super-smart, outré party knockers that fully warrant that extra “K” in “Magick.” The pulses and synths overflow like a boiling brew coming from a coven’s rave cauldron and, appropriately, these dudes are playing at a RACETRACK in British Columbia on Halloween. Spirits will be raised—maybe the spirits of purebred horses? They’ve got a few more West Coast shows coming, too. Check the tracklist and tour dates after the jump.

Video: Jokers of the Scene, “Baggy Bottom Boys”

Fool’s Gold pranksters Jokers of the Scene have been going through a “blue period,” if you will, making gothy mixes and having a general aura of doom about them, but this video might be their transition into another stage of artistry. Namely, muted piano tech, sparklers and ravers with a healthy dose of geometric animation that conjures the illuminati. And considering the massive amount of SICK sci-fi movies slated for the next six months, now would be a fairly zeitgeistical time to get in on that—some metaphysical happening at a club party might make for a good plot point. What was that vampire movie with a scene at a crazy rave, where the lights went out and a rain of blood gushed out of the fire sprinklers? Anyway, half this video is twitchy like a gif, and they’ve also got a new remix EP.

Exclusive Freeload: Rob Threezy, “The Change Up (Jokers of the Scene RMX)”

Above is a gingerbread rendition of Jokers of the Scene, taken from their MySpace, that is actually pretty accurate. They also have an archive of pics of them clowning around, wearing weird hats, beating each other with what appears to be a light sabre, hanging out with Steve Aoki, and doing other wacky junk, which makes it that much more serious that their music is so banging. This remix of Rob Threezy’s new Nightshifters release, “The Change Up”, is testament to that: they flip its essence into a deep and gothy dance song whose thoughtful synth/drum build is major enough to make you think staying out another six hours is definitely a hot idea. Actually, it is. Do it.

Chi-city trunk thumper RobThreezy (of Ghetto Division/Brick Bandits fame) has tossed his regular jukey/housey/clubby stylee and gone full-frontal rave on this bonkers synth mix for Nightshifters. By full frontal rave, we mean that by the third movement you will be boobs-out with glowsticks contemplating the meaning of love. It’s also called “The Change Up” because there are like 15 different parts to this—DJs can play it in basically any set possible and it will match. Drum n bass jams? Great! This single was also remixed by fellow Brick Banditian DJ Sega, France’s MikIX and JOTS (you can hear their version on their goth dudes mixtape).

Freeload: Jokers of the Scene x Actual Pain Mixtape

We have been feeling really goth in the office lately between our Salem obsession and blasting the new Blank Dogs constantly like we were born in Manchester and never sold off our existential philosophy book collection. Ottawa party jammers Jokers of the Scene have tapped into our personal zeitgeist with their super essential new mixtape for bloody T-shirt line Actual Pain—which, characteristically of depressed people, has a super super long title: “Since Our Last Report Many Things Have Changed.” Ooh, ominous! It starts out with Throbbing Gristle and by about 31:05 you will be murdered by acidic industrial synths. It might almost be spring(ish), but these are dark days, people, let’s hold hands and brood. Freeload: Jokers Of The Scene NLLR Mix

Last Friday we had Ottawa’s Jokers of the Scene come through to turn our tiny East Village Radio studio into a rave cave, and even though it was pouring down rain and ridiculously cold we partied hard enough that dudes came in off the street because they thought it was a club. Now they’ve come with a No Love Lost Records mix full of their own songs as well as originals and remixes from Boy 8-Bit and Fake Blood, among others.

Freeload: Kid Cudi, “Day N Night” (Crookers Remix) & Jokers Of The Scene, “Juggle It” (William Russell Remix)

On any given day in the FADER office we spend a lot of time staring straight at our computers, working dilligently. That’s not to say we’re not having a blast, because we are, but sometimes when shit gets hectic we just throw on the sort of mindblowing Crookers remix of Kid Cudi’s “Day N Night” and rave as hard as we can. RCRD LBL has the song for download as well as an equally ravetacularastic William Russell remix of Jokers of the Scene’s “Juggle It.”
