Freeload: Mickey Factz, “Machine Gun”

Alright so now Mickey Factz is rapping over Portishead—not that weird, considering it basically sounds like a Def Jux song (speaking of: what happened to Mr. Lif? Just asking.) But we have to wonder, what’s going to happen when The Leak hits like 1000? Is Mickey going to be rapping over Music for Airports, will that Mickey Factz/Wolf Eyes collabo finally happen? WHAT NEXT? Actually we just thought about it and those are both terrible ideas, but we’d still listen to them.

Here’s what happens if you miss one of Mickey Factz‘ weekly Leaks: He comes to your office and beats you with a rolled up issue of your magazine until you cry and then his boys take pictures and put them up in the OnSmash forums. At least that’s what we heard. We’re tough. Here is a double dose of Mickey, fresh from our inbox. And if we’ve missed anything, catch up with Ian.

In part one million of his song series, Mickey Factz hooks us up with an older 9th Wonder produced song about money and conspiracies, two topics that rap will never tire of. We’re not hating though, if you’re going to do something, you might as well do a good job, and Mickey Factz totally does that here. We’re still not convinced that 9th Wonder’s snares are not actually just him standing in a room hitting a damp cardboard box with a cucumber wrapped in a plastic bag, but we also spent a long time examining the new 20 dollar bills because of this song so what do we know? Also, America has officially stepped up their money design game (word to the purple 5!)

So not only does this dude Mickey somehow put out a song a week, he’s now found time to A&R other rappers. We can’t even drink coffee and think at the same time. GFCny’s new group based out of Atlanta FKi aka Fly Kidz Incorporated, comprised of 1stDown and 88, have a new EP coming out and this is the first single. You can also grab a couple other songs over on their MySpace.

We continue to be baffled by the rise of Gym Class Heroes (Weezy’s bringin’ em to Summer Jam?!), but you know, the world is a confusing place sometimes. Here they are again (one of ‘em at least), bookended by a dude who’s ascendancy we obviously do get, Mickey Factz, and some guy we’ve never heard of who kind of kills it on the first verse as does Mickey on the last. According to Mickey, this is off producer Omen’s forthcoming album Be The Judge, and all rappers were tasked to speak on life highness.

Ian just put this up with some opaque references to Mickey being unhappy about it, but as everyone from Barack Obama to your mom knows by now, once it’s on YouTube, you might as well just come clean. We can’t find anything wrong with the video itself, especially since dudes are wearing Hood By Air creations and Hood By Air-ist Raoul even makes a cameo, but we understand how these things can get. Like that Hood By Air video linked above? We fought for days about who was going to get to hold the microphone. Still think about it. Anyway, when you’re done watching that video make sure to download the compiled tracks from Mickey’s Leak series below.

Freeload: Mickey Factz Is A Francophile

That means he’s scared of Frankenstein. But seriously, we’ve missed a handful of Mickey’s weekly joints, but we’re putting these up because they’re both backed by French musicians we have been known to listen to on occasion, that occasion being being awake—”Don’t Be Light” is N.E.R.D.’s remix of Air’s jawn and “K-1 Attack” is Mehdi’s “Signatune”.

Last time we checked in with Mickey Factz he did some cool emo-house stuff and we posted a picture of Grover because we were doing a puppet thing. This time Mickey and Naledge of Kidz in the Hall get a little lyrically lyrical and trade-off a bunch of verses. They still sound like they’re having fun though. We are into fun and still into puppets.

Our boy Mickey gets a little emo-house this week with “Up High,” which details his experience in the music industry so far. Get it below or at his MySpace.

Now that we’re on top of this whole leak a week idea, we’re going to post Mickey Factz’s freejawns until he stops altogether or starts rapping over Merzbow or something because that would be unnecessary. In the meantime, this week’s songs (there are two!) are both remixes of earlier Mickey stuff we were feeling. The first is Machine Drum’s version of “Talk Yo Ish” which airs out the original’s blips with some real nice layered synths, and the second is the remix of “Rockin N Rollin” with the Cool Kids, which you can actually only stream for now but apparently has a video coming at the end of February.
