The return! We have been waiting since late summer of last year when Mira Billotte played solo for our dormant Piano Recital series on FADER TV. We hope she plays the jam from the video above, “Ethioking,” with the full White Magic band tonight at 92Y in Tribeca. We hope she’s got a new bag of tricks to display. We also hope she puts in some work with early opening group Highlife, Sleepy Doug Shaw’s blunted Ghana-saturated guitar songs. One to watch, people.

We’re trying to slowly transition back to our regular selves and get back to work, so here is our first attempt. A few weeks ago, we sat two feet away from Mira Bilotte when she performed a solo version of a new White Magic song, “Ethioking,” in our piano haven on the Upper West Side. She was such a serious boss. What are you supposed to do in a small room filled with a voice like that? It’s hard not to fidget or reflect on your own humanity.
