FADER TV: Big Boi on Chico Dusty, Piranhas and Outkast

Big Boi is the only three-time FADER cover star, appearing with Andre 3K on #5 and #18 and with Killer Mike on #32 for our Purple Ribbon story. Barring another cover for Kanye or the White Stripes—not out of the question—it would be safe to say Big Boi is FADER’s #1 dude, so we were bummed when he couldn’t play the Levi’s®/FADER Fort last month because of wild time constraints. He did, however, have a moment to come sit with us and discuss what, exactly, is going on with his long-awaited solo joint Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, the future of OutKast and the pirahna movie he’s probably not starring in.

Freeload: Big Boi, “Ringtone”

The son of Chico Dusty releases yet another single from the mysteriously unreleased Sir Luscious Left Foot. Hey LaFace, we like all these! You can let it go W-H-E-N-E-V-E-R.

Freeload: Big Boi f. Andre 3000 & Raekwon, “Royal Flush” [No DJ]

We’ve been listening to this on repeat all morning and found the Greg Street-free version for you (Thanks for the tip anyway Greg!). The first official single from Big Boi’s solo Sir Lucious Left Foot and a reprise of “Skew It On The Bar-B” aka the best song to drive around Atlanta blasting real loud.

FADER 50: Atlanta Rap

The last of our reprinted features from FADER #50, “Atlanta Rap” focuses on the post-Outkast dissemination of The A aesthetic. From crunk to snap to trap and everything else, the city revitalized rap and birthed a new generation of innovators, and we did our best to cover it all first. Audio: Outkast f. Marsha Ambrosius, “Da Art of Storytellin’ (Part 4)”

We’re bugging just as hard as everyone else at this snippet of Andre’s verse from Outkast’s contribution to Drama’s Gangsta Grillz album (especially if you combine it with Big Boi’s verse off “I’m So Hood”), but it’s measured bugging because these dudes have been teasing us with suggestive raps for a minute now. So, for now, we’re just going to take “Part 4″ for what it is and go repurchase Kast’s whole catalogue because we feel like it. UPDATE: Full version below.

Stay Cool

Although we love to love Uma Thurman, are fans of John Travolta and think Get Shorty wasn’t bad, we secretly shelled out $10.50 for a ticket to Be Cool just to see what our boy Dre 3000 was sayin. We’ve never understood and probably never will understand why great musicians use their precious-ass time making bullshit movies when they could be making classic albums. How many times have you watched your favorite movie? 15? 20? How many times have you listened to your favorite record? 100? 1000? 1500? Okay okay okay there’s more money in Hollywood and watching oneself on the silver screen ads a nice little puff of helium to the ego balloon, but this has gone too far. An open letter to Andre 3000 after the jump.
