New Phoenix Remixes from The Soft Pack and Shuttle
- story Peter Macia
Phoenix supposedly have an entire bonus disc of Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix remixes coming out with the deluxe version of the album soon, but unless it’s filled with revisionarisms that will explode planet Earth, it seems the band is willingly giving away that whole bonus disc for free on its own. The newest two are a nuggetfied Soft Pack cover of “Fences” and tropical/funky sounding rework of “Love Like A Sunset” from Passion Pit drummer Nate Donmoyer aka Shuttle, who might have gotten firsthand approval from Phoenix while touring with them recently. Or he just stole shit off their computers. Either way, keep ‘em coming.

Freeload: A Bunch of Songs From Urban Outfitters
- story THE FADER
Fans of good music and haters of vowels, come together and partake in Urban Outfitters latest URBN LSTN thing, in which they give away a crapload of free songs from a bunch of artists, some of whom have been given full endorsement by us in the pages of FADER Magazine and right here on this webternet site. Artists such as Grizzly Bear, Crystal Antlers, Apostle of Hustle, Passion Pit, The Big Pink, Amazing Baby, Jeremy Jay, Major Lazer, Popo, Lemonade, Nite Jewel, Phoenix and many more whose songs we’ve already posted here! It’s almost like they’re stealing from us! It’s almost like we should get compensated in some way! It’s almost like they should send over lifetime gift cards so we can stop wearing dirty t-shirts and duct tape shoes!

RCRD LBL Freeload: Passion Pit, “Moth’s Wings”
- story THE FADER
We should have known that Passion Pit would eventually out themselves as occasional prog rockers—the signs were all there: the children’s choir, the falsetto vocals… next thing you know thousands of suburban teenagers are smoking weed for the first time with this playing in the background and writing eight minute epics about dragons riding the bright blue crests of the Atlantic Ocean.

As makers of magazines, we appreciate that this new Passion Pit video, directed by Humble, looks like it’s been ripped and reconfigured from glossy pages of print. As creators of internet TV, we appreciate that the song it is for is the same one we filmed them recording with a children’s choir back in January for FADER TV’s monthly series Studio Time. Now if only they would’ve sent us a funnier blog post to go along with your multimedia experience.
FADER TV: Studio Time With Passion Pit
- story THE FADER
Michael Angelakos, the main man behind Passion Pit has some big ideas for the band’s first full-length. One of those ideas was to bring in a 46-member children’s choir from PS 22 on Staten Island (who are no strangers to fame) to beef up some of the songs. What other artists are making bombastic moves like that? Not many not named Kanye or U2. Up above, watch as a whole bunch of kids hopped up on pizza and soda add body to a chorus that will get stuck in your head pretty much forever.

Video: Passion Pit, “Sleepyhead”
- story THE FADER
We’ve only just come to terms with the idea that Passion Pit’s “Sleepyhead” is basically a Hallmark card by lead singer Michael Angelakos, who wrote the song to celebrate the Valentine’s Day anniversary he shares with his girlfriend, as revealed in our interview with him last month. And now that we have video to accompany the audio, we can watch it every day until February 14th while thinking about how we are all heartless assholes compared to Angelakos. Great! Passion Pit’s debut full-length will be released early 2009, probably on Valentine’s Day.

- story THE FADER
We’ve been cranking Passion Pit’s “Sleepyhead” for a good long minute, but it wasn’t until last week that we had good reason to put it up for download. One of our favorite music blogs, Good Weather for Airstrikes, gave up the grind of talking about music for the grind of putting it out on their new label Neon Gold Records, and “Sleepyhead” is their first 7-inch release. And, as a lesson to all crusty label heads out there, they’ve put the mp3 up on their own site for download. Pwn3d. Coincidentally, our friend Michaella Solar-March, from Australian radio station FBi 94.5, recently interviewed Michael Angelakos from the band, so grab the song, then read what he had to say about love, life and french kisses. Passion Pit’s Chunk of Change EP is out on Frenchkiss Records on September 16th.
