Teki Latex’s Phenomenon Capsule Line
We’ve written about Teki Latex’s impeccable style before, and apparently we’re not the only ones who’ve noticed his propensity for colorful prep and confident quirks. Japanese men’s label Phenomenon, whose most recent line consisted of Warriors-inspired street style with a touch of pagan apocalypse, has enlisted Teki to create a capsule collection based on his personal aesthetic. He graciously sent us an exclusive sneak peek at the lookbook full of crisp polos with dandyish elements like top hats and canes combined with Pac-Man-y pop art, a characteristic blend of playful and classic. But the piece that really turned us out was this crazy Cosby-invoking cardigan with all the pieces of the line combined in one pop: what appears to be a shark (dinosaur?) polar bear (thanks dudes!) in a top hat with a cane and a monocle. Touché, Teki, touché.
Phenomenon Has You Covered, Rain Or Shine

It’s not hard to find reasons to be pessimistic about the world, and if, like us, you feel the need to stock up on armor for the apocalypse, then take a look at Phenomenon’s fall 2009 lookbook. Truth be told, a head-to-toe parka and black ribbed face mask will probably weather the nuclear storm far better than a pair of Red Wings and a toggle coat. Dark references aside, there are plenty of playful, trippy patterns to pull through to brighter times, like spring 2010!

If you happened to spend the better part of your adolescence in the UK then your first contact with the leisure pant phenomenon known as Zubaz was probably via a snappy dressing American Phys Ed teacher in secondary school (translation: high school). The new collection by Phenomenon brought all those awesome memories flooding back in a sporty, loungey deluge of samurai purple stonewash and sawn off button-downs. The Japanese label were, in our opinion, one of the first to make a case for the hammer pant as a viable, real-life option for boys and these baggy, banana-shaped joints are a pretty amazing update.

- story THE FADER
What if Tron met Japanese anime over coffee and decided to make a clothing line? You’d get Tokyo-based label, Phenomenon. The label came into being somewhere in the depths of a world where corn husks and ultra bright paint are considered plausible hair ornaments. After the initial shock of electric color and corn husk combos wore off, we noticed the adventurous ideas in the pieces. Individually, they are versatile—a green army poncho here, an elaborately patterned shift dress there—the colors are playful and the military styles are reminiscent of a more classical concept. But it’s the wearability that distinguishes it from other conceptual lines, maintaining a sense of imagination even without the red hair paint and tape shoes.
