FADER TV: Avoiding Disease At The Yard
- story THE FADER
A couple weeks ago Brooklyn fairy godfather Todd P organized a massive mid-summer party at The Yard, a lovely greenspace on the shores of the gonorrheic Gowanus Canal (Oh shit! Gowanorrhea!), with performances by many FADER favorites such as Oneida, High Places, Shy Child, Crystal Antlers, Ponytail, Telepathe, Vivian Girls, Abe Vigoda, Soft Circle, Soiled Mattress and the Springs and Chairlift. We asked Todd if we could bring our video camera, and of course he said yes. We edited the nine or so hours down to several easily-digested minutes with performances by Ponytail, Crystal Antlers, Vivian Girls, Telepathe and Shy Child. Catch the virulent experience only on FADER TV.

Video: Shy Child, “Astronaut”
- story THE FADER
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to jump into a rainbow? It would be this video. Oddly enough, this video also feels like getting punched in the face. We’re not sure how those two things could possibly intersect, but Shy Child make it happen. If this went on for an extra five minutes it would totally be categorized as prog rock, and that is weird to think about.
FADER TV: Shy Child At The FADER/Fred Perry Party
- story THE FADER
How many times can we mention that Shy Child utilize a keytar? A million times! But man, look at those things. Here is a video of Shy Child playing our FADER/Fred Perry party at the Mercury Lounge last week— repetitive, catchy and propelled by the same surprisingly not annoying keytar riff over and over again. Is it weird that we’ve watched this video like five times now and are still tapping our feet? Probably a little. These New Puritans—who were the other half of the New York party—will be hitting LA along with the super tall and awesome dream popper Jeremy Jay this Friday. Stay tuned to this one website called thefader.com for more details.
NYC: FADER/Fred Perry Party With Shy Child And These New Puritans
- story THE FADER
Last night we braved a 70% chance of precipitation and apocalyptic heat only to watch the chips fall just as we safely barred ourselves inside the Mercury Lounge for the FADER/Fred Perry party. And jamming through it all—through the cats and dogs and fallen branches and spewing fire hydrants—were Fred Perry Subculture favorites These New Puritans and Shy Child. One cloaked in Shakespearean armor, and the other rocking a keytar and alto-sax. Maybe it was the free Bass Ale talking, but people were looking good. And wet.
Audio: Shy Child, “Angel Of Mercy”
- story THE FADER
In order to like the music of Brooklyn’s Shy Child, the common man has to ignore the common man’s propensity to be a sullen dick. Shy Child is fun, exuberant and unabashed about the keytar. They’re also fairly earnest about the keytar, which is much, much better than being ironic about it. It’s a real instrument that allows musicians to play a keyboard like a guitar. That isn’t that funny. Finally, their Noise Won’t Stop album is getting US release on Kill Rock Stars, and “Angel of Mercy” is one of the new songs included that was not on the UK edition. And guess what? It’s so raven! If you haven’t yet, read our Gen F on Shy Child in the latest issue.
