NYC: Soft Circle, Glasser and Awesome Tapes From Africa
- story THE FADER
Hello New York City, a bunch of our homies are going hard this weekend. Brian who does Awesome Tapes From Africa will be playing music like the Sunny Ade cassette above, alongside DJs from Escort and a performance from Teengirl Fantasy, who are generally confusing if not fairly colorful. This is happening in Tribeca at 92Y. Also tonight, in Brooklyn, the current beloved FADER office star, Glasser, has made her way east and is at Williamsburg’s Zebulon. And on Sunday you can go to Glasslands to see Soft Circle with Justin Miller and famous internet blogger Lovefingers DJing. Check the full flyer for that after the jump. You are going to have to figure out what to do on Saturday, we got nothing.
FADER TV: Avoiding Disease At The Yard
- story THE FADER
A couple weeks ago Brooklyn fairy godfather Todd P organized a massive mid-summer party at The Yard, a lovely greenspace on the shores of the gonorrheic Gowanus Canal (Oh shit! Gowanorrhea!), with performances by many FADER favorites such as Oneida, High Places, Shy Child, Crystal Antlers, Ponytail, Telepathe, Vivian Girls, Abe Vigoda, Soft Circle, Soiled Mattress and the Springs and Chairlift. We asked Todd if we could bring our video camera, and of course he said yes. We edited the nine or so hours down to several easily-digested minutes with performances by Ponytail, Crystal Antlers, Vivian Girls, Telepathe and Shy Child. Catch the virulent experience only on FADER TV.

NYC: Joshua Light Show With Invisible Conga People And Soft Circle
- story THE FADER
Ending his short residency at Issue Project Room in Gowanus, Brooklyn, this Saturday evening, Josha White and his Joshua Light show will be projecting kaleidoscopic fiddle faddle all over the walls while Soft Circle and F2 artist Invisible Conga People marinate sound mounds. We’re blind but we heard it looks cool. Also, Joshua White directed that episode of Seinfeld with Philip Baker Hall. Which is weird.

Freeload: Soft Circle, “Drumbler”
- story THE FADER
We never really know what we’re going to get when we listen to Soft Circle, sometimes there are drones and whale-yelps, other times it’s songs like “Drumbler,” a layered piece of hypnosis through tight drumming and a thick bassline—barebones in instrumentation but somehow just as dense as the ambient works. At first we were thinking that it was kind of a surprising direction for Hisham to take the project in, but then we remembered that Soft Circle has always existed in a constant state of evolution, never sounding the same twice. Sometimes Soft Circle is for sitting in a chair and going on crazy mind journeys, but this time—if you wanted—you could dance or maybe at least nod your head.

FADER TV: Getting Weird With Soft Circle
- story THE FADER
A little while ago we caught up with Hisham Bharoocha aka Soft Circle bka renaissance badass at the New Museum’s Get Weird series, where he performed a couple new songs to be released on RCRD LBL. We asked him about those two new songs and his plans for the future (hint: 888), and we put it all on FADER TV. RCRD LBL, in turn, has just put up the exclusive download of the first of the two, which you should get below if you have any soul left at all. Expect the second next month and check Hisham’s tour dates with the Boredoms over there as well.

NYC: High Places/Soft Circle/Lucky Dragons Show Moved To Silent Barn
- story THE FADER
Five-O put the chokehold on the Market Hotel last night, so tonight’s show there with FADER favorites High Places, Soft Circle and Lucky Dragons has been moved to the unstoppable Silent Barn. Tell that one kid not to invite the cops this time and bring an extra scarf cuz it’s brick out there.
