Freeload: Six Songs from the Lost Fixxers Album Midnight Life

On the cover of FADER Number 48, you will see the face of Compton legend DJ Quik. We put him there because, at the time, we believed his album with AMG as The Fixxers would be the one of the greatest rap albums of the year. It never came out because somebody wasn’t happy with how many “Can U Werk Wit Dat” ringtones were sold or something like that, and thus our Quik cover story became a tale about unknowably excellent music. Until now, apparently. Quik himself just put up six songs from that shelved album, Midnight Life, on his MySpace, and we’re putting our two favorite of those six right here. Maybe it means he’s purging the songs he’s tired of to make room for new joints, or maybe he’s just feeling generous. Either way, we’re feeling a little validated.

People, we’re trying to work here! But maybe more of note is how big a production the whole thing was. Interscope still has money for this, but doesn’t have room in their budget for The Fixxers’ album? Sheesh.
