Video: The Juan Maclean, “Happy House”
The concept for this video is so simple and perfectly understated, much like how The Juan Maclean’s disco equation of subtle and no-frills translates to elegance on the dancefloor: LED lights hitting diagonally on white-adorned dancers, with vocalist Nancy Whang in a futuristic hijab-inspired headcloak acting as a lipsticked Uhura striking Martha Graham poses. This video could totally be installed (or performed) in the New Museum and we would not be mad. (via Audioporn)

Freeload: The Juan Maclean, “One Day (James Curd Remix)
- story THE FADER
The new Juan Maclean record is vastly awesomer thanks to the more prominent addition of Nancy Whang on wispy vocals, but sometimes while listening to it that one time in the office (it drops mid-April on DFA) we wanted it to get a little crunkier ’cause, you know, sometimes your shit’s just crunky. Enter the “One Day” remix EP, featuring a small hoard of dance producers doing their thing on the peppy next single “One Day.” This one comes from Chicago house producer James Curd, who takes it to its natural progression, Human League’ing it out with some modern-day electro. We are striking poses now.

Freeload: Circlesqare, “Hey You Guys” (Juan Maclean Remix)
- story THE FADER
We’ll cop to not quite understanding the intense love Circlesquare has been getting from the musicnerdiverse, but we’re coming around! Especially because we’re willing to perpetually give dude a second chance as long as he releases remixes like this. The Juan Maclean take a stab at “Hey You Guys,” throwing in whistling air and a bunch of electronic blurps that could have been made by one of those ridiculous super computers scientists had in the ’70s. Reading that back, it seems like there’s no life to this song, like it’s purely made up of cold machine noises, but that’s not the case. It’s actually the warmest dance song featuring screwed monster yells we’ve ever heard. This remix is from the Hey You Guys EP, out digitally March 24th.

Audio: The Juan Maclean Happy House Is Out And We Are Happy Office
- story THE FADER
Did you catch that joke up there? It was awesome, right? But not as awesome as The Juan Maclean’s “Happy House” which is streaming at RCRD LBL. We wrote at length like drooly babies about how good this song was when it was on Juan’s Resident Advisor podcast, and now you can peep the entire gigantic epic mammoth gigantor big grande sprawling large shiny sheeny pretty princess of a a house song. Nancy Whang as a collective listening audience, please be on every song. Juan Maclean, please make Juan Maclean songs still. Dudes from Holy Ghost!, please feel free to collaborate more with other people like you did on this because you jam. We love love. And shit. Or whatever. You know what we mean?
