Twista f. Kanye West, “Alright” MP3
This morning Twista was on Hot 97 talking about his new record, which dropped today, and apparently got zero push considering it was the first we’d heard of it. And it was like, “Why is Twista releasing an album? Who releases albums anymore?” Rhetorically speaking of course. And it’s called Category F5, which sounds about right considering the impending Amber Alert on his career. But if a song as excellent as “Alright” didn’t make the album, it bodes well for Twista’s future: Kanye and No ID’s contemplative piano beat and doorknocker drum patterns are a nice counter to his Tommy Gun flow. Plus you get to indulge in the weird joy that is hearing Kanye rap the word “gnarly.”

Listening to this, we have to question why Twista would even bother working with any producer but The Legendary Traxster, who, besides being responsible for a bunch of Chicago rap classics by Twista and Do or Die, has perfected this sort of breezy, late-evening creep. With space for Twista to slow down a bit, a budget auto-tune chorus and a ghostly verse from Boosie, who somehow makes smoking weed in a Doubletree in Chicago sound interesting, these dudes elevate the standard weed anthem from an inconsequential album cut to a single we can actually put on repeat.

Is there a way to NOT sound good over a Zaytoven beat? Not like Twista has ever met a beat he couldn’t outrun, but a Zaytoven track with Oj and Gucci is kind of like being in a foot race with a rocket-propelled skateboard. Also, all present are in tip top shape, with Gucci and Twista highlights including, but not limited to, “Kick ass like Bruce Lee cause I got diamonds like Wah-tahhhh,” (Twista), “My watch is conceited so I call it a Kanye,” (Twista) and “You’re not my type of hype, girl you look like a monster,” (Gucci).

A while back there was a glut of rap coming out that sounded like it was recorded during sunset at Club Med. As fans of all things relaxing, we were all about it. Now Trae, along with Krayzie Bone and Twista are taking the easy listening train a stop further, threatening dudes over smooth drugstore guitar. Paired together, we’re not sure if we should be buying a Caramello and some Claritin or beating a bunch of people up.

Just realized we hadn’t posted the new leak from Twista’s upcoming album Category F5. Traxster, the producer behind Twista’s classic Adrenaline Rush, comes back to reprise that album’s “Get It Wet” but won’t be handling everything for the new album. Guests as of now include Busta Rhymes, Kanye West, Trey Songz, Bobby Valentino, Mello tha Guddamann (once rapped the words “I let my balls hit her chin like a backboard”), Young Jeezy, Jim Jonsin, Traxster (see above), Toxic,Tight Mike, Caution & Velli, Chad, Prime Tracks, Young World, and Good Will (great name). It’s supposed to be out in the spring, so expect more soon.

First of all, we’d like to apologize to Jim Jones for the relative lack of coverage lately on TheFADER.com—sometimes we get overwhelmed by the quality and quantity of content coming out of Harlem and rather than try to keep up we just watch in awe. But today, we’re gonna try to catch up, mostly because Jim’s verse on this new remix of “Swagger Like Us” is like comedy thunderbolted from heaven into stone tablets of blogging: Caught niggas sleepin’ with no pajamas on… Looking all gully in my Hermés skully… Niggas can’t touch me like Jim had the coodies [he got the COODIES]. And then NOE comes on HA! And Twista rapping faster than ever! Man, Wayne is like the least interesting thing on here. Also, the video above is called “Jim Jones & Skull Gang Present A Tribute To Bad Santa Starring Mike Epps Part 2″ and is a preview of a Christmas mixtape of the same name. It doesn’t stop, people.
