The Very Best, “Warm Heart of Africa (Violens Remix) MP3

Because we always wondered what New Order would sound like had they been born in Malawi.

Freeload: Violens, “Doomed (MGMT Remix)”

Not too long ago, our Wham! obsession was exposed by the bright light of the Violens remix series. And since MGMT crapped on our brains this morning, they owed us something as cheery as this redo of “Doomed.” It’s actually not a ton different than the original, which you can hear in the video above, but at least it doesn’t sound like a baby crying… that shit kills a party dead!

Violens Gets Remixed For Real and Sort Of Not For Real (Wham! Included)

Attention all New York bands looking for your big break on FADER.com: Just make your video out of an old Wham! video and send it to welovethatshit@thefader.com. We guarantee it will go up as soon as we put eyes on it. Of course, that is not to diminish the actual loveliness of Violens‘ “Already Over” which got Wham!ed by Chairlift’s Caroline Polachek. It is, in fact, a great song, as are the rest of the songs on their recent self-titled EP on Cantora Records. Incidentally, each of those songs will be getting remixed and released for free in the coming weeks as the band winds down it’s UK tour. Here’s the first, a spacey dub of the aforementioned “Already Over” by Kurt Heasley of Lilys. Further remixes will come from MGMT, remix collective (RAC), Subtle People and Lansing-Dreiden.

NYC: A New Venue is Born

Like those statistics you learned in middle school about deforestation or endangered manatee, it seems like every four seconds a new venue opens up in New York City. The latest is 92YTribeca, a new arts center opening October 18th, who are throwing a pre-opening show tomorrow night with FADER 57 GEN F-ers Crystal Stilts along with Violens and Chairlift. So you can get a jump on new venue discovery, and it’s free if you RSVP! Just email Bsisto@92Y.org with the subject “10.11.08 – 92YTribeca – BV” and your first and last name in the body of the email and you’re set. (via Brooklyn Vegan)
