Stylee Fridays: Wood Wood Fall 2010
- story Chioma Nnadi
It’s typically quite difficult for a line to be fashion ambidextrous, in other words as strong in menswear as it is in women’s. Danish label Wood Wood showed a new collection in Copenhagen last week that had both the boys and girls scribbling styling notes for next winter, balancing that fine line with every passing look. Wood Wood founders Karl-Oskar, Brian Piv Jensen and Magnus Carstensen started out as a graff crew in the city’s Roskilde neighborhood, and over the years they’ve gently molded the line into what it is today: clothes built for a very stylish street life. The new season has a workman’s palette (denim blue, black, brown and military green) accented with bright hits of red, and all the ladies accessorized with cascading waves of copper-toned hair. Essentially the vibe boils down to a softer take on the school of fashion hard knocks, like boiler suits made from silk, sharply cut puffers and khakis (notice the even the doc martens are sleeker, with a thin sole and pointy toe). The building blocks of a Wood Wood wardrobe are classic, and somehow they always manage to imbue their timeless practical gear with a fresh ‘n’ new coating of youth.

Stylee Fridays: Agentur V Brings Wood Wood, Henrik Vibskov and More to NYC
- story Chioma Nnadi
Agentur V are based in Berlin so we usually only get the pleasure of riffling through their wares twice a year. Luckily the fashion agency that handles the likes of Henrik Vibskov, Wood Wood and Christian Wijnants have opened a New York outpost in SoHo and Sarah, pictured here in a lovely green Henrik V number, will be heading up the daily runnings downtown. Picking out our fantasy Agentur V shopping list has become a bit of a seasonal ritual for us. After the jump, see all the pieces we’ll be scrimping euros for next spring.

Stylee Fridays: Wood Wood Fall 09
- story THE FADER
There aren’t many labels we know of that can do what Danish label Wood Wood do—a mellow kind of street elegance that somehow references European kookiness and Japanese workwear obsession all at once. The brand’s Copenhagen flagship store, which houses sneakers and Comme des Garçons trinkets as well as their own clothes, is just as much a hang-out spot as it is a place to shop. There’s a real sense that Wood Wood is a crew more than they are a design trio, which seems about right when you consider that designers Karl-Oskar, Brian Piv Jensen and Magnus Cartensen came up in the city’s early graffiti scene. If you look closely at the new and recently showcased collection, there are plenty of really spot-on reworked Wood Wood staples to look forward to next fall: Tomboy appropriate blouses for the girls come in leather as well as chambray, and Mao-esque outerwear for the boys gets dip-dyed a paler shade of violet. They take the clothes we already understand and love and reinterpret them with unexpected flourishes. Cindy Lauper bangs for boys on the other hand, are entirely optional.

FADER TV: Fashion Week Behind the Scenes Wood Wood
- story THE FADER
Danish label Wood Wood have always impressed us with their ability to straddle that line between the lofty planes of high-end fashion and that other sartorial realm called the streets. So it’s kind of fitting that for their first show in New York the duo chose a 20-story building on the city’s west-side to host the proceedings, in full view of all the fashion week madness but not too far uptown to scare away any of the downtownites. Erin Hansen, our style assistant, makes her FADER TV debut talking to Karl Oskar, one half of Wood Wood, about their latest collection and what it feels like to show at NYFW for the very first time. Look out for the hats—our favorites were stuck in customs—alas! But the new brimless, North African hat is most definitely a Wood Wood look we consign for Spring ‘09.
