Scanners - no, not that Scanners - is set for public consumption this week at the Film Society’s Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center. The '05 NY Video Festival line-up runs the gamut from tongue-in-cheek cop-operas (from Japan!), pornographic “pink films” (from Japan!), a feature on Turner Prize winner Jeremy Deller, and a retrospective on Kerouac’s favorite Swede, Cocksucker Blues director and all-around bad-ass Robert Frank.

Always in the market for some academic hyperbole, we’re jazzed about seeing how “2005 Video Show: Music To My Eyes” is going to explore Mark Romanek and Spike Jonze’s respective treatments of “99 Problems” and “Get Back” and prove that “each video demonstrates aesthetics and politics, art and soul can co-exist.” Geek out and beat the heat while the fest is in town from Wednesday July 27th through Sunday July 31.
