We Walk The Line

November 15, 2005

Grown men and women, CASHFEST ’05 has fully begun - the JC biopic doesn’t come out ‘til this weekend, but there’s anticipatory celebrations all week long.

Walk The Line’s original soundtrack (aka Joaquin Comes Alive!) hits new release shelves today, and dude sounds about 95% exactly like Cash on the soundtrack. As in, you could probably trick your Dad with his version of “Cry, Cry, Cry.” And since Phoenix's transformation is what’s gonna turn the movie from a maybe-OnDemand to a must-see, we give a double high five to Phoenix. Although he’s still no match for fat George Clooney.

On Wednesday night there’s a Johnny Cash tribute show on CBS, with a lineup that ranges from the slightly suspect (Kid Rock) to the incontrovertably awesome (Dwight Yoakam), and on Friday you can check the main event in theatres. Or on bootleg. Yeah, we said it. But why settle for a Canal Street replica when for a few bones more you can get your boxed set on? Case in point: Time/Life recently released the three disc, infomercial-ready Complete Sun Recordings: 1955-58. 61 tracks of original Cash, no handheld DV cam needed.
