Halloween night we got with the ghouls at the House of Blues in West Hollywood for a special performance from My Chemical Romance. The band appeared in skullface, but lead-singer Gerard Way didn't seem to know what the big deal was, telling the crowd, "Brothers and sisters, we wear costumes every motherfucking day." Tell us about it.
Starting with album opener "The End" and going into "Dead!" we thought the night may be a re-creation of the recently released The Black Parade, but MCR did throw in some oldies including "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" and "Cemetary Drive." Still the set was mainly new rippers (WE ARE NOT COMPLAINING) with "House of Wolves" and "This is How I Disappear" killing it the hardest. Liza Minnelli (or someone in a Liza Minnelli costume) did not make an appearance for "Mama," but at one point Gerard Way jammed the microphone in his mouth and acted like a zombie—that was creepy and awesome enough for us.
