Prancehall’s Bass Odyssey, Part 34

October 30, 2008

I have a new favourite label: Glasgow's Dress 2 Sweat. They started off releasing really good old and new Baltimore club stuff (which I always disliked as a genre until I was won over by said label), then recently put out a DJ Deeon 12" and have forthcoming releases from Manchester's Piddy Py and Philly's MOVES!!!. The latter is an alias of Starkey, who is making some of the best dancefloor music in the world right now. Look out for his forthcoming album on Planet Mu. For now, check out "All Skate" under
his MOVES!!! moniker, which sounds like a 4/4 garage 8 bar classic
from the future and will be out on Dress 2 Sweat on November 17.

MOVES!!!, "All Skate"

Despite the prayers of every grime fan in the world, another
electro-grime song has been made. Proving that it is possible to make
something more offensive and embarrassing than "Rolex Sweep," Skepta
and Ribz have come together to give the world "Dance Like Me." For
some added bad taste the video features a bloated 40-year-old ex-Big
Brother contestant who looks a bit like a transsexual (I think her
name is Leah) and it looks like Ribz has a massive love bite on his
neck (presumably from said girl). I would like to take this
opportunity to apologise to the world on behalf of my country for
producing this shit.

Fresh out of jail after being caught helping himself to some
pick'n'mix in Woolworths, Roll Deep's Roachie has hooked up with
Tinchy Stryder and producer Maniac to make "Rollin.'"It sounds as if
Roachie has lost something now that his high top fade has gone but
it's nice to see him back.

Finally, Logan Sama has been releasing weekly mixes over the last
month under the title The Best There Is At What I Do and this week
he's done a really good grime history mix. What's the name about
though? It's really not much of a boast, is it? It's not as if anyone
is going to say, "No, Logan, I am in fact the best there is at what
you do." You are a grime DJ from Essex who is on commercial
radio and runs a small record label. If I am not mistaken, Logan, you
are the only person in the world who does what you do.

Anyway, you have to sign up to Logan's Facebook group or something to
get them every week, but for now just download it using the link below
and access the archives here.
