Video: Palms, “Monte Alban”

July 01, 2009

Sounding slightly like a contemplative bonus track from Labryinth, with Gregorian monk-like chants filtered through ’80s synth pop and coupled with a monotone recitation of sensual lyrics, Palms’ "Monte Alban" is a surreal listening experience. The video for the single, directed by Brett Milspaw (who also directed spooky videos by Gen F’er Sahra Motalebi), follows in this surrealist vein, with meditative footage harkening back both to grocery store romantic novels and land art. Palms is releasing their EP, Boundary Waters Remixed, on August 18, with versions by Gavin Russom (DFA), Josh Dibb (Animal Collective), Bradford Cox (Deerhunter/Atlas Sound), and Matt Tong (Bloc Party).
